Do you ever wonder who made your clothes? If you don't do it yet, it is about time you did. Often, handmade products are made at the cost of slave labour and inhuman working conditions.

At Parvai, we ensure our process does not directly or indirectly support such practices, pay artisans their due & take pride in ensuring the saree does not come at the cost of someone else's misery. Each saree is, hence, truly a labour of love.

Our Kanchipuram sarees are woven at our looms, fully supervised by Parvai's team from design to finish. The sarees pass through a QC before being sent to Ajrakpur for Ajrak printing.

The art of Ajrakh is a truly remarkable craft that has been passed down through generations of communities in Kutch, with its roots stretching from Sindh to Gujarat and Rajasthan. It is believed that the earliest inhabitants of the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation, who settled along the basins of the Sindhu River from 3,300 BCE, started this craft. Creating traditional Ajrakh is highly complex, involving resist-printing, mordanting, and dyeing in madder and indigo on both sides of the cloth. This process comprises almost 30 stages, each requiring great skill and precision. The fabric is then washed and dried in the sun, which gives it a unique texture and feel. The popularity of Ajrakh fabric from Gujarat can be seen in Al-Fostat, near old Cairo in Egypt, and the many routes these textiles travelled. The intricate patterns and designs of Ajrakh are a testament to the skill and creativity of the artisans who create them. The geometric and floral designs are a hallmark of this craft, and each piece is a work of art in its own right. Even today, many thousand years later, this craft continues to be a legacy that is cherished by many. The art of Ajrakh is not just a craft but a way of life passed down through generations, and it is a testament to the region's rich cultural heritage.

At Parvai, we have always deeply appreciated the beauty and cultural significance of Ajrakh prints. Over the years, we have developed strong relationships with this region's artisans and worked closely with them to create our unique versions of this art form. While we respect the traditional complex Ajrak, we have also incorporated our design and sensibilities to produce unique patterns and versions of the same. Our small collection of saris, produced once every six months, has always been a source of joy and enthusiasm for our patrons and the craft people involved in its making. We are proud to be a part of this legacy and contribute to preserving and celebrating this remarkable craft.
